De novo is Latin for "from the beginning." In the legal world, it describes a court reviewing a case as if it were being heard for the very first time, without being influenced by previous decisions. After spending more than 25 years practicing law at some of Atlanta's top firms, the name felt like the perfect fit for my next chapter.

 

De Novo Woodworking represents a fresh start, doing work that allows me to build something lasting with my own hands. Today, I create handcrafted furniture designed specifically for the people and spaces it will serve.

 

No two homes are alike, and I don't believe furniture should be either. I rarely build the same piece twice. Every project starts with a conversation about how the piece will be used, where it will live, and what matters most to the client. From there, we create something that is uniquely yours.

 

My work is influenced by clean, modern design and timeless mid-century craftsmanship, with an emphasis on simple lines, balanced proportions, and thoughtful details. I believe the best furniture doesn't demand attention, it feels like it has always belonged in the room.

 

I'm also drawn to wood with a story. Some of my favorite pieces have come from trees right here in middle Georgia, including walnut milled by a local farmer who stored it for nearly a decade before it was ready to become furniture. Giving remarkable wood a second life adds another layer of meaning to every piece I create.
